'Hygge' feels on Arran this autumn

Its feeling a little bit chilly don’t you think? As summer draws to a close and autumn is fast approaching it is time to feel cosy and content, and we believe Arran is the perfect place just to do that, as it becomes alight in autumnal colour. From orange peaks to golden leaf strewn paths- if you have ever had the opportunity of seeing Arran in autumn, you will know that it is a sight to be seen and a warming opportunity to experience the originally Danish concept of ‘hygge’,


You may be asking just what is hygge? You’re sure to have experienced it and definitely craving more. Encompassing a feeling of complete contentment, warmth, cosiness and comfort, hygge can be felt as a feeling. Derived from the Danish language the concept of hygge is open to interpretation however, it has a deep association to seasonal food, drinks and times shared with our closest. Perhaps for you it may be a cosy read as you hear the rain outside, a crisp walk with a hot coffee in hand or heart-warming food. Below we have concocted 5 hygge experiences which we think will trigger cosy warm feelings this autumn.


1- A crisp autumnal walk

Imagine, there is a chill in the air, a condensation of your breath and everything feels a little bit chilly. However, you have dressed for the weather in cosy wear and want to explore this warming season of autumn. Then a walk on Arran is a sure to meet your desires.



· Take a stroll through Glencloy, walking aside to the river hearing the water rush downstream as you walk amongst falling leaves and strewn autumnal paths.


· Walk the Brodick castle country park where nature meets acquainted architecture that could be mistaken for a fairy-tale setting. Visit the Bavarian hut where you will find it walled with acorns in intricate patterns bringing a cosy shelter from some of the seasonal elements.

3- Retreats
